Jury service
Juries are integral to our legal system. They comprise citizens randomly chosen from the electoral register, and enable members of the community to participate in the administration of justice.
The Australian Constitution guarantees the right to a trial by jury, and it is a fundamental right and civic responsibility of all Australian citizens as part of our democratic society.
Juries bring the values, standards and expectations of our community into the courtroom, and act as the voice of the community's conscience, independent of both the judiciary and government.
