Court Services Victoria will deliver a new state-of-the-art court facility for Melbourne's west.
Wyndham Law Court will be the largest court complex outside of Melbourne's central business district, bringing together multiple Victorian court jurisdictions and specialist courts to the rapidly growing Wyndham area.
The new facility is being designed to include:
- specialist services to support responses to the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Family Violence
- specialist courts for the Koori community, mental health assessment and referral, and drug matters
- a range of on-site support services to help people address the issues that bring them into contact with the court system.
The court will be located adjacent to the new Werribee Police Station on vacant land purchased with funding from the 2018-19 state budget.
Construction will commence in late 2022 and finish in late 2024, with doors set to open in early 2025.
The current Werribee Court will continue to operate as normal during construction.
The design approach
The purpose-built court will feature 13 courtrooms, four hearing rooms, three mediation suites and 26 holding cells to service the Magistrates' Court of Victoria, the Children's Court of Victoria and the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Wyndham's future court will prioritise user experience, safety, sustainability, and technological capability.
Wyndham project delivery
The 2020-21 state budget committed $271.13m for the future Wyndham Law Court.
The project will be delivered in two phases. Phase one (detailed design and documentation) is underway, and phase two (main construction works) will commence in late 2022.
Court Services Victoria leads the Wyndham Law Court Development project. Project partners will be engaged following competitive procurement processes.
